This abridged Atlas CD contains high resolution digital images of vintage 1885 Rockingham County Virginia maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). All 1885 Rockingham County magisterial district maps are included on this CD, as are a number of city, town and village plan maps from this period.
The Rockingham county magisterials districts are:
Ashby, Central, Linville Creek, Plains and Stonewall.
Village and town maps of Rockingham county included in this atlas:
Berlington, Bridgewater, Broadway, Dayton, Harrisonburg, Keezeltown, Linville, Mt. Crawford, McGaheysville, Pleasant Valley, Port Republic, Rushville, Rawley Springs, Spring Creek
and Timberville.
The atlas also has regional and world maps of the period, as well as, statistical data and a Patron's Directory.
Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies.

These early maps often contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time; the location of property owners, businesses, churches and cemeteries may assist genealogical researchers interested in Virginia history.
The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas; and is included free on each CD.
No other software is necessary. The map data has been created and configured using the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0) for MS Windows (98, 98SE, XP, NT and 2000). The maps may be viewed in earlier versions of the software as well; however, optimum use of the data can be expected using the Adobe Reader 6.0 that is included on this CD.
