This high resolution digital Atlas contains a brief history of Augusta
County through the late 19th century, physiography and natural resources,
biographical sketches of its citizens (including Cirus Hall McCormick); as well as,
many illustrations of Augusta County residences and other places of importance. All
of the 1885 Augusta County magisterial district maps are included on this CD, as are
a number of town and village plan maps from this period.
Individual
Magisterial District maps are useful for identifying 1885
transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and
villages, and 19th century Augusta County Virginia places and place names.
Property ownership is noted throughout the district level maps.
Historic
town and village plan maps found in the Atlas are generally more
detailed with many early lots and property owners identified; industrial sites
including a variety of factories and mills; State and local government sites: stores,
businesses, cemeteries, churches, fair grounds and hospitals.

McCormick, the McCormick family home and the McCormick Harvester and
